Quiet Influence Demonstrated

Dear Ladies,

I have two blogs and am posting this on both of them. I hope it encourages you in your place of influence. Thank you for letting me share it twice.

Hi Ladies,

Last week was a very trying week personally for me. I received a diagnosis that was not good and was confirmed by my doctor.

The day of our WOW event, I ended up in the hospital. Probably in God's mercy He was protecting me as I was in no mind-set to speak that night.

God has shown himself faithful to me and has used our beautiful ladies to show quiet influence through words of encouragement, hugs and meals delivered to our home.

Quiet Influence is our theme for this year with our National office of the Assemblies of God. You ladies have prayed and been His hands and feet to me and our family.

I'd worked hard on a sermon that night, but hopefully will be able to share it in the future. The year isn't over yet!

Thank you so much to our leadership team that stepped up to the plate and covered that night. I didn't worry as our ladies are able and capable.

I appreciate you all and am thankful for each of you!

I am believing for healing in my body and know that God is faithful to complete that good thing He has begun in me.

Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. My hymn was com­posed in the manse of In­ne­lan [Ar­gyle­shire, Scot­land] on the ev­en­ing of the 6th of June, 1882, when I was 40 years of age. I was alone in the manse at that time. It was the night of my sister’s mar­ri­age, and the rest of the fam­i­ly were stay­ing over­night in Glas­gow. Some­thing hap­pened to me, which was known only to my­self, and which caused me the most se­vere men­tal suf­fer­ing. The hymn was the fruit of that suf­fer­ing. It was the quick­est bit of work I ever did in my life. I had the im­press­ion of hav­ing it dic­tat­ed to me by some in­ward voice ra­ther than of work­ing it out my­self. I am quite sure that the whole work was com­plet­ed in five min­utes, and equal­ly sure that it ne­ver re­ceived at my hands any re­touch­ing or cor­rect­ion. I have no na­tur­al gift of rhy­thm. All the other vers­es I have ever writ­ten are man­u­fact­ured ar­ti­cles; this came like a day­spring from on high.

Quiet Influence

February 27, 2011, is National Women’s Day in the Assemblies of God, a special day on our church calendar when we focus on ministry for and by women in our congregations across the nation. The 2011 theme, “Quiet Influence,” and the verse, “Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle, gracious kind that God delights in” (1 Peter 3:4, The Message), speaks to each woman who wants to be an “influencer” in the lives of those around her. Carol Kent, author of the theme message, and theme book, Becoming a Woman of Influence, says, “Our lives produce a type of fragrance that lingers with others, even after a brief encounter. What would happen if we decided to quietly influence lives on purpose? Not because we have to, but because we want to. Not because it’s our Christian obligation, but because it brings great meaning and joy to our lives. Not because of duty, but because of love.”

The 2011 National Women’s Day service gives an opportunity for every church to honor its women and encourage them to expand the ministries they currently share. Churches may wish to recognize women for their varied and valuable contributions to the ministries of the entire church.

National Women’s Day also allows each congregation to give an offering to support the Assemblies of God National Women’s Department. These offerings help continue the ministries provided to women across the nation and around the world.
